Hilda M. Sundermann Award

The Hilda Menke Sundermann Award honors the education legacy of one of NSTOY-PA’s distinguished members who was an elementary teacher in the Pittsburgh city schools. Several of Hilda’s NSTOY-PA colleagues and her husband Hank Sundermann initiated the award that bears her name after her passing. A selection committee of NSTOY-PA members that includes the NSTOY-PA Awards/Recognition Chair and a handful of volunteer NSTOY-PA members give thoughtful consideration in the selection of the annual recipient of the Hilda M. Sundermann Award. Candidates for the Hilda M. Sundermann Award are considered from all of the Elementary Certified teachers honored with NSTOY-PA Apple Awards during the school year. The teacher named to receive the one-time stipend/grant award for their classroom or startup project must embody the same spirit and love of teaching elementary children that characterized Hilda’s remarkable career. H.M.S. Awardees are invited to meet the NSTOY-PA membership at the annual December NSTOY-PA Business meeting and the Sunday dinner that follows.
